The Flight Control Department is responsible for the navigation and flight control of a vessel and its auxiliary craft. The Flight Control department includes pilots trained in both starship and auxiliary craft piloting. The Flight Control department does not include Fighter pilots (which are instead part of the Air Wing). The department is also responsible for the plotting and management of the ship's FTL jump co-ordinates, as well as controlling the position of the ships around the vessel's operational range. In the CIC of Mercury class battlestars, the Flight Control Department's section is situated to the right. It contains all controls required to operate the vessel's movement and FTL engines.
